w108 4.5 Diff
All
Is anyone interested in buying a W108 4.5 Diff. I cut away the axles and left the pumpkin intact in case some W113 owners would be interested in the gears. It's now small and heavy. But it should be easy to ship. All the best Al

It's not junk time yet b/c the 3:27 is infamous for having wear at the spyder gear pin/casting .. [ they oblong out].
So, there are guys who have the whole 3:27 unit but are in dire need of the guts. Close to 50% of them have this problem, so check that one at the pin/casting for slop. If it's tight, someone will want it. ..and the slide joint/uni asemb. itself is worth some good $$$.

Ha! I've been tripping over this axle and begging people to take but no takers. I also have 2 4.5 engines that I've been trying to sell for the last 6 months. I expect that I will be getting a flood of requests for them as soon as I scrap them which is probably by the end of next week.

I did the same thing years ago ..had one in the barn for years and got sick of moving it, so I stripped it down to the pumpkin assuming it would fit in one of my 113 cases... only to find out it didn't.

Hey Al,
Wasn't it from a w109? I remember being interested in it until somebody told me that the 300SEL axles were for air suspension and were therefore not appropriate for a w111. I'm assuming the guts won't fit into a 230S axle either. (same difference as a w113?) My fiancee just read the post I wrote and thinks we are all lunatics for speaking in terms of these cryptic numbers ;-)

230s has the same small differential case as 113.
When doing the 3:27 swap, you swap the entire rear axle/complete...

What do they do about the speedo gears for the automatic (Isn't it a different trans in the 4.5?)
Actually, more importantly how do they deal with the disc brakes?

On EPC, W109 axles had 109 part numbers.

Someone with a 3.5 coupe/cab could replace their 3.69 gears. I aleady changed mine.

Well it's available if anyone needs it and this one isn't so hard to store now. I have it under my welding table.

Oh man, I can't believe you cut that!
As stated, someone with a Coupe/Cabriolet, or a 108 could drop 900rpm's on the freeway by bolting up that complete axle assembly. It's a plug-n-play swap. Did mine back in '92 right after buying it because I got tired of 4,000rpm on the freeway. Still, the 3.27's would be useable.
