EFI or TBI conversion kit? 1967 - 250S

Anyone know of any EFI or TBI conversion kits available? I've seen mega squirt but it looks a lot more complicated than I want to jump into. Is there a simple fuel injection kit available for these cars? Thank you.

Why not just enjoy the stock carburetor setup?

Enjoy? hahahah These carbs are a pain. I've rebuilt them, and have tried to tune them. Seems like something isn't correct on them yet. I will keep trying because it's my fun play toy project car, but these carbs have issues, and I'm not sure how dependable they will be out driving around in the real world....

I have a 1972 250C that I have considered re-engining (did I just make a new word?) with the fuel injected twin-cam version. I looked at mega-squirt and even went as far as buying a TBI unit and a spare intake manifold. In the end I decided that if it worked it was going to look like a caveman did it and decided to live with the carbs.

I haven't worked on a straight six mercedes but have put megasquirt on a couple of cars and bikes. If you want a good looking installation and dont want to drill the head or manifold for multipoint injection then buy a shot carb and gut it and install the throttle body injector inside the carb. the TBI injector is quite small and will fit where the butterfly valve used to sit in a downdraught. in a side draught it will fit in the vacuum pot. its actually really easy to do and once the air filter is back on no one would even know you have injection other than 2 wires coming out of the carb.

megasquirt works well is cheap to build and allows you to do a lot of tuning
cheers

Well, I found a TBI 2.8 Liter setup, and I'm going to give it a whirl. I'm going to install the 2 injectors inside the carbs, and put in the sensors, and hook it up the the ECU and see what happens. I'm hoping the 2.8 liter from the s-10 truck I'm getting -- will have the same fuel/air ratio. The benz is a 2.5 liter, so a little extra can't hurt. If I can get all the sensors in the right places....... I think this might work . I'll put up pictures while I'm installing it, but I have to order all the parts first, so if may take a few weeks. I have a feeling this should work way better than those carbs. We'll see...........RIDE ON TBI!!

While it may seem easier to bolt on a TBI from a GM car I have to disagree. I would use the megsquirt to control a set of inectors with two throttle bodies on the standard 250 manifold.

Theres plenty of places to set up the sensors and in a case like this i would find another manifold and drill the manifold to take 6 bosses to mount some injectors. Throttle bodies with TPI's would be easy to find, even some little asian cars have suitable ones and because a 250 has twin carbs you can have a lot more air capacity than you would with TBI injectors in the airway of the old carb bodies.

When sizing the intake apparatus (be it a carb or tb) be sure to consider the rpm of the engine you are putting it on.

IE a 3 liter engine turning 6000 rpm will pump as much air as a six liter engine turning 300 rpm.

Now if the s10 has a lower operating horsepower than your benz motor you may run out of power in the upper ranges.

I have never done anything with tb but have mixed and matched carbs some. A carb that is much smaller will not deliver any more fuel economy than the original since all carbs are built to deliver about 1 to 14 fuel to air ratio.

But a very small carb will not allow the engine to deliever its power at the higher rpm. With the small carb you can put the pedal to the floor and the engine will just feel like you have it halfway down with the correct sized carb.

Its an excellent way to govern a motor to limit rpm operating range actually.

Wow, more ideas. thanks. I acutally have a guy who has 2 wallberg? carbs he would sell me cheap. Looks like they might fit right on the intake manifold without changing anything.
They are 2 brl carbs, so I'm going to consider this as well. I'll keep you up to date when I decide.
