throttle linkage

Does anyone the measurements for the all of the linkages on the throttle assembly. I would like to confirm that they are correct. The car is a 71 280 sel.

Hello twinockchef,

Go to this site http://sl113.org/forums/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=16 go to this site and read "the linkage tour" at the top of the string. Your engine is the same as in these Pagod SLs.

Man. That is a nice little article you've put together. Excellent work!

I just went through this on the Coupe about 3 weeks ago, and what a huge difference it made.

I had some significant wear in the ball sockets, and in the spherical bushing that's inside the one tower next to the valve cover. So when I'd step on the accelerator pedal, the transferse rod would begin to "load" both the venturi rod and the fuel injection pump rod, and then the slop in the bushing would kick in and the whole transverse rod would rise up about 1/8" causing the injection pump to be actuated at different time than the venturi.

There was no way to mouse the linkage to compensate, so I finally went to the dealer and ordered the ball studs, ball sockets and bushings. They were dirt cheap and what a difference.

Of course some of the ball studs are welded to the bell cranks, so there's not much I can do with those unless I want to drill them out and replace them with theaded versions.....which I may.

But doing just the replaceable pieces (and adjusting the damper and venturi positions) first made all the difference.
