1973-1980 W116 Door And Tail Light Seals

Water is leaking into my trunk from the tail light gaskets, which need replacing. The dealer price is over $80 for each side plus tax. Are these parts available elsewhere for less money, and will they do their job well? I have not been able to find the W116 tail light gaskets anywhere I've looked.

My door seals are also leaking, but the dealer price is $600-$700 for all four. I'm all for sticking with OEM, but I just do not make that kind of money. Do the aftermarket door seals like APA or FCP Groton work well? I can buy all 4 aftermarket seals and get a trunk and both windshield seals for around $250.

I recently had my windshield replaced several times, and using aftermarket seals didn't seem to work so well, however, the last time it was done I bought a $140 seal from the dealer and had the worst results of all as far as fit goes, not to mention it leaked the worst. I'm wondering if it was worth buying a $140 OEM seal when the $35 aftermarket seal that was in before fit better and did not leak as much.

So, has anyone used the aftermarket W116 door seals and had good results? What about the tail light gaskets, or do any of the aftermarket suppliers make them?

APA seals...stay away.

just off enough to make you think they'll work. after a lot of fussing, and cussing, i came to the realization that when it comes to any type of rubber seal intended to keep out moisture, go OE. you and your car will be much happier.

i too need to replace my tailight lens seals and plan on going straight to the dealer.

just as an FYI, stay away from the meyle brand. cheap stuff and doesn't last.
