1964 220 se

I am new to the forum and would like to know your opinion as to the value of a 1964 220 SE Euro model (Love at first sight) Automatic, p/s, sun roof 154,000 kilometers.

The car is solid with no signs of any rust, it looks original inside and out, repainted, chrome is clean, interior needs work (ripped seams), wood is all there and in good shape, original Becker radio. Engine started at first try.

Judging the car on the scale of 1 to 5, Five been perfect I would say the car is a strong 3.

Thanks

2-3K if motor is perfect, (no smoke from exhaust, or oil cap)
buy it, and enjoy going back in time.
There will be many rubber and nylon parts to replace. the more it is used. Leaks will show up when used.

Age related degeneration of soft parts.

Sun roof is what you are buying, rare option

Double check for rust. This is what kills these cars. Commonly found underneath pedals, above headlights, jack points and in trunk wells. Most other problems can be fixed but rust is painful.
These old cars need to be lubricated with a grease gun, about 15 points at joints and moving parts in rear and front axle/suspension.
Other than that, it's a great car and I wish you many happy moments if you decide to buy it! ;)

Buy it and enjoy it - they are great cars. I wish I still had my '65 which had over 200,000 on the clock when it was traded for a 280SE 4.5 (which I still have).

Is it a coupe or sedan?

If it's really rust free, doesn't smoke blue on start up, and isn't chugging like a steam locomotive out of the valve cover if you remove the oil filler cap while idling, then that's a huge part of the battle. I'm not a fan of their automatics, so that would sort of be a minus (if not a deal breaker) if I was shopping it.

I'd say it's worth a couple 3 grand unless the repaint is really nice still.....or would buff to be really nice. You'll spend a grand redoing the seats in MBTex and another grand if you want to go with sexy German Square Weave Carpet (drool).

If it give you any help with the value:

Last fall I sold a '66 w110 200 gasser with freshly rebuilt head, new exhaust system, 4 on the floor, older silver repaint in cheap single stage but waxed up pretty decent, but a perfect (redone) black interior for $5,000. It was extrememly rust free. 1 year prior, I sold a '68 w110 200 diesel with 4 on the column, engine that I'd just rebuilt, original white color but repainted and shiny, and original red interior in near flawless condition, for $6,600.

It is a coupe, the asking price is $21,000 will let go for $17,000
