Source for Mercedes Tail lights for a 280S and Head Lights

Hello, i would like to know if you have any other source for Head Lights and Tail Lights for a 280S 1976, since from what i have hear Adsit Co is not a very realiable provider.

The 5 cylinder diesel engine should fit fine since this body style had the 5 cylinder diesel engine as an option. You will need to get a W115 or W123 body style flywheel, clutch and pressure plate to make it bolt up to the 4 speed manual transmission.

Your 280S is a W116 body style. The early 300SD is also a W116 body style. So, pretty much the same car except for the engines, but the 5 cylinder turbo engines never came with a manual transmission, so you would need a flywheel/clutch/pressure plate from a non-turbo 5 cylinder diesel or a W115 or W123 4 cylinder diesel engine for it to bolt up to your manual transmission. The flywheel from the 280S engine won't work, I believe.

I found this stuff out because I have a 1967 230S that used to have a 6 cylinder gasoline engine and a manual transmission. I took an engine from a 1979 300SD and used a flywheel from a 220D 4 cylinder diesel so it would bolt up to the manual transmission, since the 5 cylinder diesel engine had an automatic transmission originally.

The 300SD also had an aluminum hood and deck lid to lighten it up a bit. Not a requirement, but every bit of weight off the car helps. -CTH

I have heard rumors of the aluminum deck lid, but none of the W116 300SDs I have seen have had aluminum deck lids. But they have had aluminum hoods.

I have both panels from a 300SD that are going on my 6.9 once it goes for a repaint. The important thing when getting these Al panels from a car is to also take the springs that go with them. -CTH

I have had some decent luck with Adsit. The only problem I see is they have a fairly restrictive polcy regarding purchase-kind of an all sales final approach althought I must admit they worked with me on a CSV for my 280se.
On another note: is there a guide out there equivalent to (and I am taking a shot in the dark here) a Hollings or Hollingshed manual which if memory serves correctly is for cross-referencing of automobile parts from one year to another.......for the vintage Mercedes?

taillights

I know I have a set of taillights in the shed for a 116. I am sure I can find them.

Do you need both sides? I think I have one of each. Send me an e-mail or a private message and I will send you photos.

Pooka.
