70 220D Fuel System easy?
Hey everyone I have a 1970 220D along with my 83 240D and was hoping I could get some advice from you all. I acquired this 220D about 5 months ago. It was given to us by a close friend and they said it just needed the fuel pump. The car is in very good condition with mint interior and still even has the original windshield! It has 137,000 original miles. Here is the only problem:
When we got the car it was supposed to be fixed a few weeks from then. But the mechanic that's supposed to be working on it ended up not getting to it, so it sat in his dirt lot... Well meanwhile 4 months later it's still sitting there with almost 4-5 promises to get to it, but nothing has been done. I don't blame the mechanic because he's been VERY good to my dad and I and has soooo many cars to do. But I hate how the car is just rotting there. I unfortunately live in the southern California desert where temps can reach up to 125oF and this summer it got to about 120. All summer it was sitting outside baking and we've got a little rain and it was still just sitting there. It's filthy and it's getting to the point to where I just want to tow the car home and fix it myself. Is this wise? From what I've seen it needs a battery and a the fuel lines are inside the car. Is this a moderate fix or is it so complicated that I should have it fixed by him? It just is killing me how it's sitting there rotting, when it should be out on the highway living. I'll snag some pictures of the engine and post them and see what you all think. I just want to drive it so bad and clean it! What should I do?

Jordan why don't you head over to the Diesel forum, I think your 220D has the early OM615 which is very similar to the OM616/617 commonly discussed there, I would think the dieselheads over there would solve your problems in a snap.. Shame to let that car just rot away, bring it home and fix the problem yourself, with the assistance of Shop Forum members!
