Pertronix not available for 250S / W108?
I want to install a Pertronix system in my 1967 250S, but they say they don't have one. Distributor is Bosch Number 0 231 185 006. Has anyone found a Pertronix model that will work with this distributor?

I tried the Crane xr700 ignition system and just did not care for the optical trigger adjustment. So after reading several of the posts here I settled on the Pertronix unit. I have a 71 280se and the listings do not show a unit for this vehicle. At that time I was visiting the Summit Racing site. I called the customer rep who was patient and fleshing out my problem contacted the Pertronix rep who suppled us with a unit based on the ID# of the distributor. The folks at Summit were very helpful...Good Luck

It's the same distributor as in the W111's, W110's and even the Pontons. The advance weights are different though.

It won't work because you have a 2 piece point system; however, I took and drilled a 7/8 inch hole over the post on one side, and it works fine now. YOu have to reset your timing, but it's still better than points. You may have to file some of the aluminum off of the other end too. I've had mine on for 3 months now..no issues.

Contact the tech folks at Pertronix, they are quite helpful and if you send them your distributor they will make up a system from the parts bin.

Bought Pertronixs kit #1867A and Flamethrower coil, 3 ohm for $98 delivered. Installation was very easy - took about 1/2 hour including coil. Could not push the magnet down on the distributor shaft by hand. Thought I had it down all the way, but when I put the rotor on I could tell it was not seated correctly. Took a few gentle taps with the flat end of a hammer handle to seat it all the way. Went down a good 1/4" more. Bypassed the ballast resistor as instructed.
The engine started up easily. Let it warm up and then set the timing using a vacuum gage. Got about 17"Hg. Took it for a short ride and all seems OK. No pinging - but it is only about 30*F here in Michigan. Didn't put a timing light on it yet. Seems to run fine - but it did with points also until I left the ignition switch on. Idle is smoother. Need more extensive testing to see if the performance is much better. Dennis |

You'll really feel the performance improvement if you run the gap out on the spark plugs so you're making a bigger spark. Go up to .038" and see how it starts cold. If you like how it fires up cold, then stay with that gap and see what you think under load of acceleration.
I also buy 'em from Carl at retrorockets, although I've only used them in British stuff. Best $100 I've spent on performance/dependability mods.
