Todd, That was standard equipment for this model, listed as "Load Leveler" on the original window sticker.

I scored one for my coupe. It was mounted to the rear axle that I swapped in from a wrecked '72 280se 4.5.

Down here ,the majority of the compensators were removed once they aged and replaced with the regular spring .Cost being one factor and relative longevity being the other. It got to the point where a customer drove in,the compensator was removed and the spring fitted and they were gone within 45 minutes.

I understand that. Now I think they are about $2200.00 (last time I checked about 2 years ago at the Classic Center in California) and still available from Mercedes. I got mine back in the early 1990's for about $750.00. I like original parts on my Benz!

I hope my 220S looks that good one day. I'd better start working on it again.

What are you willing to pay for a nice glossy 8 x 10 photo of the underside?

Thanks for the kind remark Arthur that means allot coming from you. I'll try to take some additional pics in late spring and somehow shield the big red tool box reflection from the pictures.

I would also like to say thanks for all of the other kind remarks that you all have given on these pictures. It has been a pleasure to share them with the Vintage Merdedes group.
