Hey Guys,

I've been sorting the interior on my euro '72 350SL and had a question:

My build sheet (from MB Classics) lists my interior color as "265 - grey beige leather". Image of interior is attached below. I've been around vintage MBs since before I could lift a wrench & I've heard a lot of interior colors called a lot of things, but I've never heard "grey beige" used.

Is there another term for this color in the US? Or is it just a rather rare color?

(The other odd thing is that the seats are definitely MB tex. Color & patina match the rest of the interior, but they obviously could have been replaced any time over the last 37yrs.)

Someone has obviously reupholstered the seats with MB tex. MB tex codes start with a 1 rather than a 2. 265 is leather and now called creme beige, parchment, or mushroom/champignon depending on the model and market.

So are creme beige, parchment, & mushroom/champagne all the same factory color, just different names? Or are they all actually different shades?

I think they are all pretty much the same color, although I've seen E-class creme beige next to S-class parchment, both 265s, that had a little color variation between them. Champignon is not champagne but actually the German word for mushroom.

I've noticed that age & material can often have a large effect on color in a single original interior, as well.

A friend had an early 70's SL w/ an all original Red interior and it was at least four shades of red/pink 30-some-odd years later. That's one of the reasons I wanted to narrow it down a bit & increase the odds of all the bits matching.
