Power Window fixing flow chart?

If your windows don't budge at all. And I mean all four of them. What would your try and in what order?

Does a trouble shooting chart exist or can you build one on this thread and maybe make it a sticky?

Cheers!

First thing. Check the fuses and the power to them. Have any of the windows ever worked?

I'm not sure on the W108 but on the W114's the fuses for the windows are in a separate fuse block on the passenger firewall (RHD)

If switches are on your console between seats, check wire connection there. Gets loose over time.

The way our windows work is that there is always power to the motor. The switches control which terminal (up or down) gets ground

1) Replace fuses

2) Check power to the relays

3) Check the connections to the switches

4) Take off the door panel

5) Check power to the terminal screws on the door.

6) Touch the down terminal to ground

7) Touch the up terminal to ground.

If the wiring all checks out and it probably will not, then the motors are shot.

The only thing I would add is when you do make sure to clean the contacts on the INSIDE OF THE FUSE BOX. Often merely rotating the old fuses a few times can fix the issue. The fuse box for the power windows is on the firewall. The one with the knob is for the radio, then there are other boxes (if you have A/C, if you have a sunroof, and the window one). I dont recall which box is which but you can just rotate them all, it won't harm anything.

Clean the beverages out of the console switches.

Only takes one spill to kill them.

That is a great start, thanks!

I'll set to work on it after praying to the Golf Gods.
