so 20 would be a stretch, even with taller gears and tires and a change in driving habits?

side note..to help clear away carbon gremlins, should I be putting Premium in the the first tank, along with an effective injector cleaner AND a litre of transmissin fluid?

8.0:1 compression is pretty low. Regular should be fine.

Honestly, I got a predictable 17 on highway trips; I think the speed limit was still 55 so i would drive 65 at most.---A daily mix of street and highway I got 14-15... I kept meticulous records for 5 years of ownership.
This was in a low mileage 1973 450se; Bosch platinum plugs and Mobil 1 oil.

(It is possible the odometer was incorrect)

20mpg would be a stretch. Perhaps if it were run at 45mph on cruise control on a flat highway.

I hit a peak of 17MPG on the drive back from Dallas to Seattle.

13MPG is typical for my 18 mile round trip commute.

Forgot to mention that I have to wait till Monday
it's too cold, and the in-house Mercedes tech, is looking at it. I trust him, he's Myron Schmaltz's personal MB Mechanic.
The dealer (Schmaltz Auto Sales) I'm buying this car from is a normal used car dealership, but the Benz is from his personal 'stash' and he's a Mercedes owner as well....and I get a new battery out of this deal...another reason to wait.
