Talking buying a 450 SEL

Yup, I'm finally buying the 450 SEL..to drive. since the last post about it they've fixed the engine AND transmission!

So, from a well running 4.5 What can I expect for mileage? from your perspectives?

I had a '73 450 SEL. The speedometer was broken but it did not seem to be too bad on gas. The engine was really great and I liked the car. Ended up that something happened to the transmission and I got out of it and into a Land Rover.

I think you will really like the car.

hehe maybe your foot is heavier than mine At any rate, I'll do mmy best to peak it out on nearly everything I can, if the mileage gets too low, I might keep a cheaper car around.

I had a 450se back in the early 1980's; i got 14 city 17 highway. Gas was cheap.

But I felt at the time every mile and every moment was in a Mercedes Benz; it was more than worth it. Better than blowing gas through a Granada or an Omni.

I get about 14.5 MPG in mostly highway driving. I'm missing the 25MPG form my previous 96 Taurus, but a friend needed a car badly, so I sold her the Taurus, and pressed the 450SEL into daily service. My engine is not 100%, but it runs pretty good. Maybe if I replaced the injectors and fixed the fuel bleed down problem the fuel economy might improve, but not by much I would imagine. Hopefulle the 230 will be road ready before the 450 gets too expensive to drive daily.

I had a chance to revisit the car today for a closer, but still not close enough look before the blizzard started. It's Anthracite grey, with what looks like a creme interior...Oh the interior! it's very lightly used.
all the printing on the switches is still there and looks fairly new, even the hazard button still has it's printing on it. The seats aren't sacked out, it has the rear headrests (a euro car?) the ACC controls look almost unused! (could be new)

but sadly. I was unable to get the car today on account of the blizzard, his whole yard of cars was blown and drifted right over. and it's about -2F out right now, so the battery certainly isn't going to be up too the task.. tomorrow...oh yeah, and it's only got 211,000Km on it, There again, the speedo could be stuck.

yeah, the heritage factor does offset the aggrivation of the cost. I'll be VERY happy to get into a 116 again.

Optamistic, even a road and track test on the lighter w108 with the 4.5 showed it giving less then 12mpg in normal driving condition.
