1979 W123 280E wheel alignment

Hi,

My 280E pulls slightly to the left, I also noticed the steering wheel has about 2.5-3" of free play, I want to get a wheel alignment done however I am not sure whether I should adjust the freeplay first or get the front end aligned or vice versa

Thank you

Adjust the steering box first.
I am guessing your car is right hand drive. If so, I think this is an easy adjustment. If it's left hand drive, you will need special tools to reach the steering box adjuster from below - or remove the hole bloody intake manifold. This why I am still living with my steering play.

is the play adjustment the 19mm lock nut and the allen head grub screw on the steering box? you turn the screw counter clockwise to decrease the amount of play?

280EZrider, I adjusted my box from above and from below.... You need a 19mm wrench to loosen the lock nut and a 6mm allen key. Turn the adjustment stud(6mm allen) about 1 turn counter clock wise. NEVER turn the adjust screw clockwise.

This is great news! Another MBZ expensive tool I don't need to buy. So which did you do from above, and which from below?

it is possible to do all of it either from above or under. I prefer doing it from above.
