Fan Belt Questions

hi folks!

As regular maintenance schedule for fan belt replacement, yesterday, I replaced the fan belt for alternator-water pump and AC altogether with DAYCO belts to correct tension. Today,as I warmed up the engine, it squealed like a hungry pig when I give some gas.

I shut it off and touched the belts and they were hot! I waited to cool enough to remove the belts, as I inspect them, the DAYCO belts were glazed and some teeth are missing, imagine I installed them new yesterday! DAYCO belts are no good, the old Continental belts I had before performed excellent but the size for alternator-water pump(for M115) was out of stock(10X935) but they have 10X900(that size won't fit).

In the Philippines, we have imported belts here, Dayco,Continental,Optibelts and Gates for euro/US cars, for Jap cars Mitsuboshi and Bando belts.

In your opinion guys, which one is the best belt to use other than Continental?

p.s. for all of you all guys had already have alternator bearing replacement solutions, I have a 80-Amp. alternator,V-belt type has a little play, what bearing size to use on them?

Lots of belts stretch when new. I would tighten it back up and run it some more. Then tighten again if necessary.

And buy a continental next time!

I've had luck with Gates, and I think they may also make the Goodyear Gatorback belt I have on my Jeep that's been on for over 5 years now and still isnt even cracking...

New belts always stretch, I usually warm the car up once, shut it off, and then re-tension it once it's cool enough to get my fat fingers in there!

You've got a tensioning/installation problem, not a belt problem.

make sure your pulleys are free of nicks and bends, also to large a belt ( width) can cause real issues. If I remember correctly you need to get belts with the proper "V" and most are in metric measurements
