Question What is this part and were does it go

I have this wire (See the picture below) .

(1) Were does this go? I have a 1973 280
(2) What does this wire do?



This wire connects to whatever picture #2 is.

What does this thing do..

The device in the second picture is an early diagnostic connector. MBNA said that there was never a tool to hook to it. I imagine there was one somewhere.

The info available would have been: timing, dwell/rpm (primary ignition) and battery voltage (charging voltage).

I don't make out the first picture but there is a wire that goes to an inductive pick-up placed next to the crank pulley for timing light hook-up.

Is that a vacuum line running to the first gizmo, or is it in the background?

If there is no vacuum line, then it loooks like the inductive circuit for the diagnostic connector in the second picture. The #1 plug wire runs through the hole. Randy Durrance called that one for me earlier this week.

Thanks for your help. I looked and the inductive pick-up is what picture #1 is.
