Thumbs up K, so I finally HAVE the 450 SEL.

Yes, I finally have it.

It fires up first shot after sitting unplugged all weekend. Somehow I knew it would.
I feel it idles a little high. In gear it's steady at just over 700 in park it's around 900-950..oh yeah, the Tach works!
It moves under it's own power, Oscar is to thank for that!
a couple questions about that...

It's a hard shift through all the gears, but not a righ rev flare.
2-3 take a little rpm to get it to shift again with a clunk. A clunk that is most definately in the rear of the car. a little low speed shudder when coming to a stop sign. I know that the work done to the transmission is good, because it grabs and grabs very solidly, just need to soften the shift and shorten that 2-3.

seats are nice and comfortable too!

definate exhaust leak at the curbside exhaust manifold. what is that most likey to be? gasket, crack or coupling?

And so begins another project I can't wait

3rd to 4th? these cars only come with a 3 speed. Clunk could be a diff mount or worn axles.

vaccum issues can affect the shift points, but so can linkages. Search both. The exhaust could be a simple tightening. On my 450SL I had what I thought was a manifold gasket or break. Wound up being one missing manifold bolt, and multiple loose manifold connection bolts.
Good Luck

First morning: It was a spiteful -21C outside this morning, and it started like it was +20 outside...I was quite impressed.

Definitely a vac issue, as no kick down and the downshifts are hard as well, I think the vac line to the modulator may be leaking or missing, the modulator itself may me leaking too.

1978, Gauge cluster is Metric, says Oel and UPM..mean anything?
I just discovered an EGR valve that isn't connected, but can't see any vacuum lines that are astray.
