Removing alternator pulley on m117

How do I remove the alternator pulley and fan from my m117 alternator? I've removed the alternator from the car already, but now there is no way to stop the pulley from spinning when I try to loosen the bolt. Does it still have to be in the engine to remove the bolt?
Thanks,

removeing alt pulley

what you need is a vise you lock the pulley in the vise and that allows pulley removal, also I have used a giant pair of channel locks to do the same thing, get you a pair at sears craftman works great on oil filters too. good luck

I have to replace my alternator and can't get the pulley/nut off the old alternator. I called MBUSA today and their tech told me there is a part under the nut similiar to a woodruff key ,removing this should allow removal of the nut. Any comments? Thanks
