Yes, it was black. Now it has a Jet Black basecoat/clearcoat.

That paint looks great. Now I'm envious. You can't really tell by the pics of my 108, but it needs paint pretty bad. Did you shoot the paint yourself? I wish I had the painting skills to do mine myself-sure would save me a bundle in labor cost. post more pics when ya get the chrome back on.

Everybody I ask tells me it's the best and easiest. I still like the way old enamel or whatever it is looks personally.

I did shoot it myself. I used PPG Jet Black with 8152 ClearCoat. I shot the base with an Iwata Gun 1.3 tip and the clear with an Iwata 1.4.

After I did the metal work I epoxy primed, next I shot three coats of 2K primer surfacer which was sanded to perfection (almost) then I sealed it with an epoxy sealer after which I applied the bc/cc.

For added shine I wet sanded with 1200/2000/3000 grit papers and machine polished with several compounds.

If I were a purest, I would have shot it with single stage black and left it at that. But nothing rocks liking a brilliant black finish.

More pix coming as I progress.

Thanks

I thought maybe there a deep philosophical rationale. SS just looks blacker, more authentic and it holds up better than CC.

Pretty as it is I'm glad I don't have to keep it washed. NO more black cars!
Unless it's primer.

Wow, nice job. Nothing looks better than a black car. They are a pain, but worth it.

I agree, black cars are a PITA to keep pretty. I know I am going to re-do my 108 in silver because that's the original color and I always loved it.

BUT black cars look the best when they're clean so they are worth it IMO!
