Pare, mukhang walang sumagot sa yo. Here's a good link to look at. It is the standard that motor oils have to follow in the US...

http://www.api.org/certifications/engineoil/categories/upload/English_Oil_Guide.pdf

Just make sure that the oil has the letter designation shown in the API standard. Diesel oils have the letter C so its either CF CJ CH etc. ALso, you won't go wrong by using 15W40 regular oil. You can use synthetic but I wouldn't use it all the time especially on high mileage cars. If you change oil and filter regularly (3000-4000 mile intervals) you should be fine.

May Pinoy pala dito sa blog! Yes! sa wakas may kasama ako rito. Anong klaseng chedeng mo 'pre? taga-saan ka? Akala ko ako lang ang pinoy dito.
Tsaka anong langis ang inilagay mo?

almost all of them replied to me that older gasoline mercedes use diesel motor oil because of adquate ZDDP(dialkyline phosphate? correct this if wrong). ZDDP coats the cams and rocker arm pads according to HOTROD magazine.

Roldan, my MBs are shown in my signature and the photos. I use 15w40 for the diesels and either 5w30, 10w30, 10w40 for the gas. I use regular oil most of the time but ocassionally use synthetic.

I did not realize you have a gasser. I would suggest you review the API link I sent you above and you will not go wrong. All new motor oils have enough detergents and additives in them. I would not be concerned about adding anymore additives to the oil (or your gas for that matter).

zinc dithiophosphate (ZDDP)

This is from a 2006 article from Castrol:

Castrol offers the following products that contain Zinc at a level that is higher than the Zinc level found in oils (API SG) marketed during the "muscle car" era of time:
* Castrol GTX 20W-50 (SL,SM)
* Castrol GTX Diesel 15W-40 (CI4,CH4,CG4,CF4,CF,SL)
* Castrol GTX High Mileage 20W-50 (SL,SM)
* Castrol HD 30 (SL,SM)
* Castrol HD 40 (SL,SM)
* Castrol Syntec Blend Truck 15W-40 (CI4,CH4,CG4,CF4,CF,SL)(Semi-
synthetic)
* Castrol Tection Extra 15W-40 (CI4Plus, CI4,CH4,CG4,CF4,SL)
* Castrol Hypuron S 15W-40 (CI4Plus,CH4,CG4,SL)(Semi-synthetic)

For your climate, 15W40 Diesel would be perfect!! Yes, the 5W40 Diesel Synthetic would be OK.

Just to clarify... ZDDP is not a detergent, it is an anti-wear additive. It functions by forming a thin protective film on ferrous surfaces. When the lubricant liquid film thickness becomes too thin to prevent contact between microscopic high spots on sliding surfaces ("asperities"), the zinc film prevents the asperities from micro-welding and tearing apart.

Ok, I got your point but I have '66 200 w/ '68 M115 gas engine, OM615, OM621,M121, M115 share the same overhead valve design(solid cam and rockers) and same bearings too, I used conrod and main bearings from 300D but excess of 1 bearing each but they have the same diameter as M115s. That's why I used the diesel oil because of ZDDP content but here in the Philippines, we have Clean Air Act of 1998 but this is not so stringent as the California Emissions Laws. They measure only CO and Hydrocarbons(unburned gasoline) only, for diesels, they measure only CO and smoke test.

I already bought BARDAHL DI+ diesel oil CI-4 plus (gallon and a liter, oil capacity of M115 is 5 liters but I use only 4 1/2 liters) Bardahl says their diesel oil can be used on older gasoline engines with solid cams and lifters.

I would suggest Delo 400 or Delvac Super, either has enough moly and ZDDP to suit your needs, infact both these oil exceed highest gasser specs and are compatible for diesel or gas engines.

Have you tried BARDAHL DI+ diesel motor oil? Too late I already poured it in my engine I will see it if it's performed as it should be.
