My clock works, but it runs slow - any wisdom to help me?
Hello Friends,
My clock works, but it runs slow. Is there any maintenance procedure to address this? Does the clock need to be oiled? Is there any knob on the back side for adjusting it? Thank you in advance for sharing your experience and wisdom! Jeffrey

Yes, there is a +/- screw in the back of the VDO-Kienzle clocks.

do not oil these guys with typical oil or wd40, it will serve in the long run to gum them up. If you do remove case, lightly brush out any dust. there is a clock lubricant out there, most jewlers carry it, you may be able to find some there, however slow running is usually not due to dirt. The +/- adjust should work

If oiling and adjusting it does not solve the problem, you can send it away to a VDO repair place. The one in my '77 was serviced many years ago and has been fine and very accurate since.

Thank you for the lubricant information. Being the total renaisance man, I also collect and restore mechanical clocks. I have a supply of the clock makers oil for my mechanical movements. When I had the 1953 Mercedes 170SB, the clock was completely mechanical and required winding by hand. The case itself would not allow entry without prying so I left it alone. I have learned that some clock makers did not intend for enthusiasts like us to attempt servicing the movement.
Your experience and wisdom are greatly appreciated. Taking my car apart and doing my best to figure it out is one path to the solution. Sharing your experience and information if available is far superior to me relying on trial and error.
