4.5 air suspension compressor
I have a rattle coming from my air sus. compressor. It does not increase with engine speed.I can only compare it to the sound of an a/c compressor that has started siezing(sp)It is not external as I have checked all bolts ,nuts and lines.I replaced the belt about 2 weeks ago.just in case does anyone know if rebuild kits are available?thanks

Can be the ball bearing? My compressor also does some suspicious noise but I have never opened it. I heard that the ball bearing can go bad. At least this is what I think causes the noise in my compressor.

It's rebuildable. There are a couple of good threads on the rebuild process over at the www.m-100.cc site.
I'd recommend finding a used compressor and swapping this one out. If the used one is better, then you have plenty of time to do a rebuild. It's basically a one cylinder engine w/o the overhead and troubles caused by fuel. -CTH |

4.5 compressor
I am assuming it has oil in it,as it is fed from the engine.mercedes classic center only offers gasket and o ring set.$130! I should look into a spare, but I would like to diagnose this one. ball bearing sounds like a good idea.the noise sounds more like a squeaking pully(hence the ball bearing near the front of the pulley .It is very hard to tell with the engine running.does anyone know if the 5 pully setup on the crank is one piece? I am trying to avoid removing the belts as I just replaced 3.thanks
