Question Can I recolor a W116 dashboard?

I've heard about dashboards and other car surfaces being recolored, however I have always been hesitant to look at this option.
I have found a pristine W116 dashboard complete, includes all timber finishes, all gauges, all vents and not even a glimmer of a crack on top, etc etc. (and the best part........its cheap!)
The only hassle......it's the dark blue top not the black as I have in my vehicle. I am wondering if anyone has had any experience in getting vinyl recolored and are there any draw backs?
Any advice or experiences is appreciated.

I have had excellent results with Mar-hyde in a spray can. An upholsterer turned me on to this product after showing me years of Marhyde wear on some vinyl. (or should I say lack of wear)
It takes some time to dry though; like overnight or more.

This stuff works better than you would think, and is easy to touch up. But the SEM stuff is even better and can be color-matched.

It's very good at covering scuffs on black.

However, it's REALLY messy when sprayed. Mask EVERYTHING, including things you wouldn't EVER THINK would be hit. The good news is, for the most part, it comes off pretty easily with even the weakest solvent (bug/tar remover, for example).

Hey, if you don't decide to buy it and recolor it, let me know. I need a new blue dash, and would be interested in picking one up!
