Solex Secondaries

The secondaries on my Solex 4A1 are sticking...
The pressure to open them isn't constant...and they'll catch, and then stick open.
I lubed the little "sliders" without and change.
It's my understanding that one of the causes of the stickings is warping of the top plate?

What's the fix?

Make sure the final wing nut bolt used to secure the air cleaner to the carb is not too tight. This is what can cause the top section of the Solex to warp.

Are they the top airflow operated butterflies (air valves), or the secondary throttle butterflies in the carburetor base?

Just behind the air cleaner stud is the air valve metering rod piston. I call it the centering piston, but I am sure that's not the name. It's the "T" shaped thingy that holds the secondary metering rods, and is lifted as the air valves open. The piston sometimes lightly sticks in the bore. Just squirt a small dose of WD40 down the bore and that should fix it. I've had it before, and if fact just had to do it again yesterday. Hope it works for you like it does for me.
