Rarity of Sun Roof option on a W111 Coupe

I am looking to purchase a W111 Coupe. I am curious if anyone knew just how rare the Sun Roof option is on a W111 Coupe? Also, if so equipped, does it add to it's overall value, everything else being equal on a non Sun Roof W111?

Thx

Don't know if its a rare option or not; but if it is you should expect to pay more. I would anyway.

electric sunrooves on the 250se are presumably rare. More rare presumably is the electric window motors on the 250se.

I've been watching the w111 market for a few years now, and it seems like 30% of them have sunroofs. Nothing scientific, just my impression. As a buyer, I'd sure want one.

I have been watching Ebay for quite a while and it seems like 75% or more of the 3.5 111 coupes have sunroofs but I only keep track of the 3.5 coupes. I cannot imagine not having a sunroof. Hard to say if it adds value because there are so many variables. If there were several for sale that were identical condition it would be easier to say.

I owned 3 W111 Coupe and they all had a sunroof, while I was not specifically looking for it. The first one was a '68 280 with electric sunroof. The second is a '70 3.5 with electric sunroof, and the third one, my current daily driver, is a '62 220 with manual sunroof. The only Coupe I owned without one was a W112. I don't know the production numbers, but I don't think it's that rare. It's very nice though, and I really enjoy driving with the sunroof open on sunny days.

Not that rare but probably adds as much as 10% to the value depending on the model and condition. I've heard some people chop the whole roof off just to add one from a wreck. The electric roofs were expensive new and I believe only first became available with the 250SEC. Seems like cars with A/C usually didn't have one. I know I only use mine when the A/C is not working or maybe a really nice day.

I have not done a lot of "posting", but do a lot of "reading" and really enjoy this forum. I purchased my second '67 250SE coupe today. Neither one of my coupes have sunroofs, both are automatics, one floor shift and the other a column shift - one with PW's and one with crank windows. Both do have AC. I spent about 18 months looking everywhere including eBay and purchased by first one in Georgia. It would be considered a daily driver - decent paint, decent chrome, almost perfect interior, good mechanically and very minor rust. Today's purchase was from a short time Owner (less than 4 months) that got the car out of AZ. It has really nice paint, very good chrome, new leather and NO rust. It is not a show car, but is way above average. About 3 hours after signing the title, I got a call from a friend in TN telling me he is selling his '67 coupe, black over green leather, automatic (column), power windows, AC and power sunroof. I don't need three '67 250SE coupes!!! I hope you find a good one.

Tom
