they were only bringing 380's in the 80's?

(oops, even wikepedia agrees. and states that 500sl's were faster and more powerful than the later 560sl. well, i have seen many 500's here in l.a. over the years; grey market must have been quite busy.)

Between 81 and 86, then they sold the 560sl. The 560sl is a great car. They made a number of updates post 1986. Mostly to share W124 suspension components (prior cars used mainly W114 suspension components).

I just thought I would resurrect this old thread to show how far this car has come along.

BEAUTIFUL!

Where did you get the wheels? eBay?

Those are very rare.

Yep, it's signal red. I had it painted earlier this year as the old paint was really thin. I got the wheels from my neighbor who owns a tire shop. I assume that they were take off's from a customer who bought a new set of wheels from him.

I'm very happy with them.

I noticed you got rid of the chrome fender shields/skirts...
With the spoiler on the back, is that the '024' or '044' series?
Are your hood and trunk lids aluminum?
Do you have the wheels from the original post?
How much for the original wheels?

Absolutely fantastic...do the cops come by, while it's parked, and give it speeding tickets? She looks like trouble just waiting to happen. Put a blonde in behind that steering wheel and...gosh knows what the day would be like!!!

Thank you for sharing! I remember when you announced the acquisition of this car. It certainly has come a long way.

Every restoration should have a beginning, middle and end (if such a thing exists). Too many members start projects and never finish or come back to show what is going on. You make this Forum a better place and I am happy that you are here.

Your car is beautiful. When you drive in the sunshine with the top down, remember all your friends here and smile...

I did remove the chrome wheel arches as I'm not a big fan of those or pin striping.

This is an 046 series, the 044 is the 450SL and this is a 500SL (the 024 is the SLC). As with all of the alloy engined cars, this has an aluminum hood and trunk lid.

The original wheels are now mounted on my Euro 560SEC.

Jeffrey, thanks for the compliment, i also reading your posts on the fin tail and hope to see it on one of the Texas get togethers shortly.
