just got a 1973 220D

She is a little rusty but she runs good. It is a low mileage car i was told. she runs good, standard, crank windows, and all the A/C pieces are there.
A tree did damege the car, not to bad.

Congratulations, you are now part of the 220D sub group here. I have been trying to get them to enumerate themselves but that has not happened. You can re-read several threads about 220D maintenance from Jordaan DMC-12 and others abbout these cars. They are pretty solid, but have a couple weaknesses.

Correct bumper...

The 73's had the small bumper, only difference is the brackets stepped it a little further away from the sheetmetal. The little bumper guards seemed to also be standard on the 73's, while they were little seen on earlier cars.

Still have my W114 coupe, though....
Love the W114/W115 cars, wonderful machines.

Yes she has the original Becker.
How can you tell if the car is a euro car?
The # to call Mercedes on the inside of glove box is not a normal phone #.

Love that color. It's just such a sporty color for such a, well, um *fast* car

Seriously though. I do like these older Benz's in "loud" colors. Much more interesting than the bland tones you usually find on them. I'd love the simplicity of a 220D myself. Good luck with it. Hope you can get the tree damage fixed relatively easily and that theres not too much rust.

- Peter.
