If you put an SL oil filter facing downwards the W126 oil pan will be on the way. The SL oil pan comes with its own dipstick, and the gage will be correct as both pans are for M117 engines. I bought my W126 oilpan with the dipstick on it.

I checked on EPC and both r107 (including the 5.0) and W115 (including the 240D) share the same front subframe. They both start as A115 330 10 42 and are then both replaced by A107 330 12 42. This means they are interchangeable, and that the r107 V8 engine support brackets will fit your engine and match with your subframe. This also means the r107 oil pan and oil filter will clear your front subframe.

Also, iron block V8 3.5 or 4.5 oil pans will not fit your alloy block. I know it because I was planning to fit an oil pan out of a 3.5 W111 on my 5.0 engine and was told the bolt pattern is different. They also have different part numbers on EPC.

Yes. These are pictures of the same 560 SL engine. The one I got the exhaust manifolds from.

For time being I would like to keep the exhaust manifolds as I'm not sure I will manage to fit the 5.0 tri-Ys. There are currently some on eBay, but they look a bit expensive. The oilpan ald oilfilter housing will go for $140 + transport. This is what the W126 parts costed me. the oil stick is operational but the blue thing on top is broken (I will compare it tomorrow with the W126 one, but I'm quite sure they are the same. If so you can use yours). As a compensation I will give you the engine support brackets for free. Let me know if you want them, as this will give the perfect excuse to take them out of the engine and fit the W126 ones instead.

i dont need the pan - I'm sure I can find a set of 560SL headers somewhere.

I dont need the dipstick as that is pil pan specific and the W126 pan I have clears the subframe I think.

engine support brackets meaning engine mounts right?

Your oil pan may clear the subframe but not the SL filter housing. When you will try to put the SL oil filter housing in place your W126 oil pan will be on yhe way as it is wider. I took some pictures, see below.

I took pictures of both oil sticks. They are a bit different, but the W126 min and max are within the r107 min and max (see pictures). So you can safely use the W126 oil stick in the r107 oil pan, or swap the blue handle which would even be better.

By engine support bracket I mean the alloy part between the engine block and the engine mount. See also pictures. Engine mounts are rubber pieces between the support bracket and the subframe.

Hi,

I spent yesterday afternoon swapping the oil pans. It turns out that the W126 oil pan won't fit my engine because this is an early 450 SLC 5.0 with a different bolt pattern for the transmission. As a result, the holes at the back of the W126 oil pan won't align with the ones of my transmission. I therefore need to keep my oil pan, which luckily clears my W111 subframe. It would not have fitted your engine anyway for the same reason.

Regarding the oil filter housing, the oil cicuit is different: the hose for the oil going to the oil cooler comes out of the timing case on my engine and goes back to the oil filter, while on the W126 oil filter housing both hoses connect to the filter. I'm trying to figure out if and how I can adapt the W126 filter as the r107 one won't clear the W111 front subframe. You will have the same problem reverse.

My recommendation to you is to locate a 560 SL in a junkyard which has a similar engine and trans as yours and get all what you need out of it. the 560 SL oil pan will fit your engine. I'm quite sure you will need quite a lot out of a 560 SL while you progress in your swap.

Sorry for that, but it a bad surprise also for me.
