Co Name for ignition lock
i have a '79 240D with an ignition lock that has the snap ring. MB store said they don't make those tumblers to match old key and it's 2-6 weeks for a tumbler from germany. thought i read a thread that said you could get aftermarket tumbler. since the ignition key is going to be different anyways, is it cheaper and faster from an aftermarket company. if so, does anyone have the names of such companies?
thanks Bill |

You should be able to hand both the new and old cylinders to a locksmith and have the new keyed to match the old.
I used some wafers from an old trunk lock to rekey a mismatched ignition on my 450SEL. Michael

I've never taken a lock from a car to a locksmith myself. In the past, I've always done my own repairs and rekeying of locks provided I had a key to rekey to. Now that I have a key machine, I can cut keys to match locks.
