I put an electric vac pump from a w126 in one of my old cars once, it will do a lot to mask little problems, which aren't that hard to fix anyway. I did put a single electric servo on the drivers door for keyless entry on that car though.

People always ask what were they thinking with those vacuum locks, the only thing I ever came up with is it's QUIET. And rather elegant I think personally.
BMW's and such of the time sound like I don't know what more often than not when the power locks actuate. Decidedly un-classy. But it's your car, just don't do anything non-reversible.

That is funny Wolf... Reminds me of the locks that you could hear slamming shut like prison doors. People walking on the street used to look offended when they heard that sound. I received a few looks that said, "What T F, you think I'm gonna rob you?"

I voted for complete repair of the original system.

Remember, this is the central locking system on a Mercedes Benz S class! It was designed for long life and reliability. It was a proven system used in their cars for 30 years.

Rebuild the system properly, with original parts, and the system will last you a few more decades trouble free.

And just think of how easy it will be to sell a car with a properly function lock system!

Good luck!
