Like it needs to be said again, but that really is a good looking car.
They had the body lines and the stance and all just about perfect there
I think.

IMHO, a landmark design, though the styling was controversial at that time. This was the first Mercedes engineered with a degree of safety-cage construction and the final version swing-axle somewhat tamed the tricky handling that swing-axles were noted for.
Some say the early Fintails had the best quality trim and interiors, but only single-circuit drum-brakes and manual steering were availible at first, and major changes to the steering and brake setup on later models makes it difficult to transplant disc-brakes and power-steering into these early cars.
I regularly drove a very rusty '60 220Sb Fintail for five years, but the PO had mostly kept the mechanics maintained and I got the car for free. Once I replaced the motor-mounts, and got used to the column-shift, manual-steering and drum brakes, the car was a pleasure to drive.
All Fintails are horrible rusters, so if yours is rust-free, or has only very minimal rust, you have a real find there!

Happy Motoring, Mark

Thank you Mark!

I am in the "Archeology Stage" right now... Have discovered that the original owner bought the car in California and eventually moved to Austin, Texas. The last reciept with his name on it is dated 1988, so I know the original owner kept the car for a long time. Also, the car was never in the rust belt. There may be more receipts or other documents. I am still digging. Can't wait to see what might be in the glove box.
