Need complete exhaust system

My 1980 280SE needs a new exhaust from the manifold back. I found the TimeValve kit but would prefer to not have to buy stainless. Does anyone know of any other sources?

Muffler shop should be able to bend up some pipes for you and then all you have to do is buy the tail muffler.

I have an exhaust system (good used) from a 73 450SE. I am not sure where they differ. It is a dual system with no cats. Southeast Wisconsin.

Wodnek,

I don't think that would work. Mine is a single with 2 cats.

If you don't drive your 280SE regularly, the SS is likely more cost effective.

There is a aftermarket brand "Anza"
The parts dealer bought from SSF Inc.
It is a total bolt in manifold back.
I am happy with the whole system. 7 yrs npw.

My Jeep Cherokee is the only one of 4 vehicles I have w/o stainless exhaust (aside ftom the MB's headers and 1 header pipe I replaced on the cheap). It will also be the only vehicle I ever don't have stainless exhaust on. With weather here in NEPA and as infrequently as I drive it, my whole system is shot again. I need the muffler and rear tailpipe (only 2 yrs old), and probably the pipe between the cat and muffler too. I'll find out once I get to tearing the old stuff off. If you don't live in a damp climate, steel is fine. But you'll need stainless if you never drive in the rain and it's exposed to moisture, because it condenses underneath the vehicle and causes it to rust out faster, especially if not driven as frequently.

Thanks for the input. I might try the muffler route but in Chicago it seems like no one likes to custom make exhaust. I took my old Saab to a muffler shop a few years back and they quoted $550 for a new exhaust. I bought the parts online for $125 and did it myself.

I'm waiting to hear back from TimeValve but I remember from my 250C they were pretty expensive.

Try the classic ctr, you may be surprised. I recently got an OEM front pipe for my 67 for a VERY good price including the special nuts and bolts and manifold gaskets. If you're interested in what they charged PM me.

Time Valve doesn't make/stick that exhaust anymore "due to no demand". Trying the Classic Center, then the local muffler shops.

Here is a muffler all the muffler shop has to then do is bend and weld a set of pipes to it. Mu 500sl had its pipes cut at the down pipe. i did this exact thing at the local independent muffler shop and it cost me $80 for them to mount the new muffler and bend up the pipes.

Ended up @ $350 for everything from the manifold back. I priced it out doing it myself for about $250-$300 so I thought I got a deal.

Until I was under it this morning and saw they had clipped the wire for the o2 sensor and threw it away.

Now I remember why I try to do most of my own work.
