W114 / 250C wood dash removal

Hello all,

I have recently purchased a 1972 250C which will need to have the wood dash refinished. The forum has a lot of good information on the refinishing process, but not a lot on removing / reattaching the wood dash pieces in the W114. Tips on removing vents, fasteners, taking out the instrument cluster, etc. would be very welcome. If anyone can provide suggestions from their experience on what to do / not to do in the removal and reinstallation process it would be most appreciated. Thanks!

I did this two years ago on my 1970 250C. It was actually very easy to remove the entire dash. That was the first dash I have ever removed and I was not only pleased at how easy it came out but also how easy it was to put back in.

I can't remember any "gotchas" off the top off my head, just take your time and label wires with toe-tags.

Thorsen, thanks for the post, my apprehension over the project is lessening. Did you remove the steering wheel to do the job?

I removed the steering wheel because I was painting the entire car. It's very easy to remove, pop off the center cap and remove the 6 nuts holding it on.
