If the regulators go all the way up and down without skipping then you just need to clean and re-lube them.
The stuttering is usually just old caked grease and/or ratty weather strip seals. |

Thanks Mike
The problem is that when the window gets to the top of door frame it hits the top and then drops a few cm and keeps doing so if I keep my finger on the window button. On the odd occasion, the window stays at the top (though sometimes drops back a few cm whilst I am driving!). So basically, the motor keeps on running when you would normally expect it to reach the top and stop. Do you any idea what should stop the motor from running when it hits the bottom or top of the door frame? Any solutions would be greatly appreciated. On the passenger side, there is a bigger proglem in that the motor is burnt out. Last edited by lamakdaddy; 09-02-2009 at 08:20 AM. |

The regulator is cracked or bent. Common issue on these cars. You MIGHT be able to bend it back and if the large gear is not chewed up it can work well. If it's cracked you'll need a new (or good used) one. Hard to find new and quite costly. Keep an eye on ebay or scrapyards for used.

Thanks..the gear teeth looks fine. What is it I need to bend? I noticed there is a guide with a nylon bush which seems to be designed to be pushed against the large set of gear teeth. The guide appears to be bent and the nylon bush is not making contact. Should it be? Also what stops the motor from spinning when it reaches the top and bottom of the travel?

There is no auto- shut off on these cars.
It sounds like you have a coupe (2 door). Is that correct?

Sorry, should update my profile...no its a 280 Saloon w114.060
I was not thinking about auto shutoff as such, what I mean to ask is, does the motor just continuously run if you attach a current to it, or is there some sort of sensor that stops it when the window has reached the bottom or top of its travel. At the moment, when it gets to the top, it seems to force its way past the last tooth and keeps on going. |

As long as the switch is depressed, current will flow to the motor. It will keep going until it hits a stop. At that point it will begin to draw addtional current and blow the fuse if you keep the button depressed.
There are internal stops in the door that should stop the movement of the regulator. IIRC, they are rubber and can deteriorate or the regulator can bend and not "hit" them.
