300sel 4.5 horn
MY 1972 300sel's horn honks when I turn the steering wheel. I would guess there is a short somewhere. Is this a common problem in a specific location? I'm driving every one on the road nuts. I'm afraid I'm gonna get throttled.

or just unplug the horn till someone with more experience answers your post. I would guess that the short would be a loose screw in the horn ring area. Have you removed the steering wheel recently?

I haven't done this in a while but here is what I remember. Gently pry off the center pad on the steering wheel. It's attached with 3 plastic studs.
If I recall, the horn ring floats there on 3 tiny little rubber "tits". They sometimes breakdown. Having them in place is important. I got three in good shape out of a wreck. While your in there you can check the two wires for the horn. Sounds like something is loose of frayed. Easy enough to pull it all apart and check. STS |
