Question 1969 280SEL runs erratically when hot

Hi guys. It's been awhile and I'm stuck with the same problem but I think I've narrowed things down a bit. THe car runs like a champ when cold but when it warms up it won't idle and it wants to stall and usually does. Funny thing is, it runs OK when the water temperature gets hot, let's say for twenty minutes then it starts to act up when the underhood temp gets hot. It seems to me that if it was something involving the mixture it would act up as soon as the water temp reached it's operating temperature. But it doesn't. It waits a little longer when the underhood temp goes up. Could it be that supplementary air valve? Or something else I haven't hit on just yet? Something temperature related is going on here. Otherwise the work goes well. Many thanks in advance.
Thom

Could you possibly be running too lean of a mixture? I'd check all the throttle linkage for proper adjustment and then set the mixture at the injection pump. I had a customer's '66 250SE which was acting similarly to yours and I found that someone had the throttle linkage all misadjusted and the car was running very lean. It would hesitate a little when warm and then once the temp would rise in hot weather, it would barely accelerate. You can refer to the 108-113 service manual for proper linkage adjustment specs.

Aaron,
Thanks for your response. When you speak of being too lean do you mean by the idle air/fuel adjustment or by the linkages which I'm told adjust the mixture while the car is revving? Or both/ Just wondering. I'll see if I can find that info you refered to. Thanks again.
Thom
