I had a fuel leak...

...So I ordered a new fuel hose. The hose that threads into the bottom of the tank and goes to the dampener(?). It was leaking pretty bad, I estimated that I lost a half a liter overnight. The Hose was on order since Tuesday. I'll cut to the chase:

This morning the low fuel light came on. OK, It's SUPPOSED to mean that there is approx 13 Litres still in the tank. Perfect time to change the hose. Took the hose off expecting at LEAST 10 litres to come out, I got about a litre and a half

Why isn't my light coming on MUCH sooner? I would have expected to make a couple trips to work and back (1.5km round trip) before It'd stop.
Don't harass me about running my tank dry.

So I'm left with a few questions. Is the level at which my low fuel light comes on changeable?

Also, if I got only 1.5 litres out, is there still more in there that is below the level of the fitting? That'd be alot of wasted fuel.
