uh, let's first point out you have a great car, and then remember that the market has gone south, far south (like to antarctica) in the last two? years.

that's all. (we're not hating on anyone, just being honest.)

So your saying the MBZ 's have gone south in Price I am guessing because of the current money problems of the world.

Oh well I should have bought more Porsches as all my Porsches have gone UP in value. One now over £100,000 in value ( $150,000 )

In a recession there is always one golden rule
" Quality sells "

right since I am a fan of these 2.8 6cylinders as in Europe with gas prices 3 times of the US these work best for us... I am now looking to buy upto $10,000 worth of MBZ's and I will wait till things pick up..I am coming back to LA in a few months So I will be looking for what I can get.

I have already had a wedding hire company express an interest in my car at £6000 first offer..

Well I guess we are all best to go out and buy the best we can find..

Most halfway-decent cars cost more in the UK from everything I've seen on TV and forums. Sometimes as much as 2-3 times more. A car that's $30,000 here would be £30,000 there. A $50,000 car here might be £70,000 there.

yeah I have to agree the shipping costs are higher now than I have ever shipped before I was being quoted $2000 but I ended up getting her shipped for $1200 much more like it. in the early days before the war I could ship out of LA for $695.

I just adjusted the tappets on my car this afternoon with the help of a neighbour who is very good ( thanks Paul ) she now sounds as smooth as a 6cylinder should do.. much smoother on take off sounds fantastic now.
The story behind the noisy tappets comes from the head having been reworked to the tune of $3500 by some mechanic ( MBZ with new guides, valves, springs the lot) in the Santa Cruz area all this was because the lady before said it puffed abit of smoke from time to time on start up... All this head work was done and it still did a puff of smoke. Lady never went back to the guy to have the tappets adjusted once they had all bedded in, hence the noise. So now it's done its total changed the engine now. I knew this when i bought it, it needed the follow up to the head rework. I found out why she puffed some smoke, the plugs where well past changing and also the wrong type. I changed these and now she starts first turn and after 1000 miles they are perfect in colour. As with old cars the list goes on and on... I know I have 10 of them ( not 280SE's btw ) mainly Porsches.. 50's 60's ones.

So I am very happy with the W108's I think I would like a Coupe next I was orginaly looking for a SL I had been close to buying an SL on a number of occastions but never signed the check. I was going to enjoy and drive then flip the SE but having had it looked over by a few MBZ people they all say for the miles which are correct that it's a good buy.

in the US I have seen a number of Porsches over the years for alot less money than they are in the UK but the standard of the car has to be high to pass an MOT in the UK. Rust being the one reason many cars in the uK Just fail. Hence your USA cars that have sat in the Sun are a better bet for us to use in Europe, but then they need work in different area's all the rubber, carpet and paint suffer...Mechaincaly USA cars tend to be bad. I have had over 20+ cars from the US and not one has or could have pasted a UK MOT test straight off the boat. Brakes being the No 1 fail point for many US cars, followed by mechaincal parts eg suspension or ball joints failed ( like a long time ago ) Not having a pop at USA cars just stating we have very strict tests every year before we are alowed to take a car on the road. In Germany they are twice as bad !!! as UK ones they test the car for 4 hrs!!!

So for me a $1500-2000 gold W108 where do I buy it!!!
