Bonet Cable and Handle

Yesterday i removed the bonnet cable and handle from my car. It was an easy job, not so much removing the cable since i didnt remove the auxiliary fan and i had to move the nut 1/8 of turn at a time. Has anyone done this in this way?

Does anyone have a good 300SD bonnet(i heard they are aluminium) since the one i have has some rust issues

You are right about the 300SD hoods, and the trunk lids, being alum. This is easy to check in a wrecking yard by just grabbing a speaker from a car and seeing if the magnet part of it sticks to the hood. If it sticks it is steel. If not it is alum.

You will always need to check before you buy to make sure someone has not replaced the junk car's hood with a steel one.

It will also save about 50 pounds of weight if you replace both the hood and trunk lids.

It looks like you live in Hondours. If someone had a decent hood here in the US the shipping would likely be a fortune to get it there. Hopefully you can find one in a junk yard there.

yes, be sure to check. I picked up a 300SD just for the panels this summer. The seller swore up and down that they were aluminum and thus I drove about 200 miles with a trailer to collect the car. I get there and ask him for a magnet, he said he didn't have one handy. So I walked down his block knocking on neighbor's doors until somebody answered and lent me a fridge magnet.

The hood was alumnimum and the trunk wasn't. Somebody had replaced it. So I left w/o the car telling him the selling price wasn't worth it to me w/o both panels being aluminum. I got a mile from his place before he called me back and we worked out a lower deal.

Was all that work worth it for two aluminum panels? No, but it was a great day for a ride through New England on a warm summer's day.

My 79 300SD has an aluminum hood, but not trunk. I know the history all the way to day 1 and never wrecked, original everything.

Thus, i dont think they all have aluminum trunks.
