It cost $40k in 1979 just to do this?
"A 5 piece AMG body kit was installed, as well as an AMG Silberfiel steering wheel, 300 Kilometer AMG Speedometer, three inch AMG exhaust system, and 8 X 16 AMG Penta wheels, at a cost of $40,000." Thats almost $120k in today's dollars! Surely they must have done more to it than just that?? Nice car though

hopefully they changed the speedo because they also did stage 1 work to the motor.
If so, it's been ported and cam timing changed, etc. Quickest way to demonstrate that would be to remove a rocker cover and look at the back of a cam with a mirror. If "AMG" is stamped on the cam, it's the genuine article. If not, well, it might still be, but I would have doubts. Thx -CTH |

Ugly wheels. Ugly steering wheel. Ugly fender trim. I'm not saying I wouldn't drive it (like I could even afford the upkeep), but I wouldn't pay a lot for it.

yeah, there may be a little sour grapes here (admittedly, from me, and , maybe others) but, its a little too much. too much verbiage in ad, too much "stuff" going on, looks a little "busy", and way more car than you could ever use or enjoy without worry. (reeks of new money. make mine a stock euro with all badges deleted )

If he really wants big money for it, he needs some AMG paperwork to back up his claims.
Its kind of loud, although I do really like those wheels. If it just had the wheels and tints it would look a lot better.

This is a US Spec car that has had some AMG goodies added and not a Euro car. Bumpers have been mounted low when he did the conversion as he used the bumper shocks to mount it instead of the Euro brackets.
I did the very same when I converted my US 6.9 to euro bumpers. It's a nice looking car but not a genuine euro.

So in other words, this is a $6k car tops. His mods pretty much destroyed the actual value. If it were a real AMG Euro it'd be above $20k I assume?

It's worth what it's worth to whomever wants to pay for it. Really it all depends on condition these days. I've owned one Euro 6.9 and it was a real POS so I would never pay a premium because it's a euro.
Most euro cars also tend to be quite rusty because they are likely to have spent some time in Germany before being shipped here.
