I for one will be very interested to see how you are getting on.

(If I ever get the chance - at the moment I'm stuck for time, money, space, and talent - I'll make something from scratch too)
I intend to shoot video of the big parts of the project and will probably take a lot of pics of the detail work.

What kind of build do you have in mind? (Keep in mind that simple and small allows for a better chance of seeing progress. If you commit to a plan then the odds are much better that you'll actually complete it.)

A project like this will take thousands of hours to complete with incredible levels of skill and tens of thousands in parts. Can you make such a commitment?

People who take on much less ambitious projects fail to complete them much more often than not.

Generally you can find uncompleted project cars by the dozens for sale.

I don't want to discourage you but neither do I want to encourage a huge expenditure of time and money if you really do not have the skill or money to see it through to completion.

I urge you to take on a less ambitious project for your first one.

I do have big plans but I want to start off small first by learning how to weld and braze properly!

I like the idea of a tubular steel chassis (I'm a bicycle nut you see) but at the moment I don't have the resources to start my plans for real. Give me another 5 years to sort myself out... It is on my list of things to do before I am 50.

Good luck with your project - it sounds like you are a bit further along?

As I said on the first page, I'm damned excited to see how this turns out.

new direction better platform.

I finally found a ladder frame Mercedes vehicle to start this build off properly!

L319 truck or van chassis.

The ladder frame makes all this business of rebody much easier and allows me to move the engine as far back as I need to and to stretch the frame to the appropriate wheel base. Still not sure what I want to do about the rear axel ( these usually come equipped with a dually rear)

Take a look and this will give you an approximate idea

http://picasaweb.google.com/Anvil.Inc/L319Specs?authkey=Gv1sRgCKjHgqen3cOeNw#5409325934521550562

I am currently looking for an out of service frame and title (they made 70k of these a year for almost a decade late 1958 to 1968 and until 1970 in spain so odds of a decent rolling frame seem promising.)

If anyone here knows where I can find one. PM me !
