Just throwing an idea out:

Has anybody done an M120 into a W123?

I spent most of Turkey day watching the Tanks-Giving marathon on the Military channel. The Rolls Royce Meteor in the British Comet and the 750 horse Maybach from the Panzer got me thinking about V-12's. Then some other channel had a biography of Enzo Ferrari. That just made it worse.

Would a 117 (V8) motor fit in a 123 chassis ? seems improbable .A 110 euro is a sweet running reliable engine.

an m117 will fit but not easily. A lot of work would be called for.

This would be the way to go. The US M110 blows, not to put too fine a point on it. There is NO way I'd willingly(as in, buy and install) put up with the dual cam motor and not have the proper, intended, correct, performance.
Intended by Mercedes, not the EPA.

I'd put in an OM617 before either, but that's just me.

Done... not overly difficult according to Axel in IL. Goes like hell.

M117 5.6 liter from a 1987 560SL donor.

I'm impressed. Was the project documented online anywhere?

There is a UK classic car magazine called Practical Classics. One of the writers, called Matt Jones has a W123 powered by a 5.6 liter M117 engine.

Here is a vid where he put it on the dyno and it made 269hp at the wheels.

Wow! Much nicer than I was expecting. Definately worth putting a motor in.

thanks
No difference
