instrument removal
Ok, so is there a trick to remove the speedo and gauges? From the top side I can pull out the cluster about 1/2 inch before it catches, can't get my hand back there. From the underside, i've tried with no success to disconnect. Any tricks or hints?
Thanks |

Remove lower panel and push from behind.

If you have a speaker hole on top of the dash in the center, you can remove the plastic cover (careful as they get very brittle with age) and pop off the metal grate. Then unscrew the speaker if it's still there. Disconnect the speedo cable from this new splendid angle.
Be careful with your temp guage as some have a capillary type arrangement that leads to the engine. |

thanks...was able to get my rheostat replaced fairly easy. Went thru the speaker grill to detach and reattach the speedo cable.

You're welcome. Now come down to Tennessee and unscrew my speedo cable because my meat hooks can't grab the damned nut.

There should be enough play in the cable to push out the cluster and reach back from the front and unscrew it. I have pretty big hands.
