72 280se 4.5 Receiver/Dryer Substitute
As the correct receiver/dryer for this model is no longer available, does anyone have a suggestion for another?
The 4.5 liter 280se requires a vertically positioned 11"x2" (approx) receiver/dryer that mounts to the right of the condenser in front of the radiator. Thanks to all, Doug in Louisiana |

RECEIVER/DRYER
We ran through the same thing. We found someone in Florida. I just cannot find their name or number at this time. I will look for it in the next few day and I will let you know asap.

Don't know anything about the specific application, however, I usually find answers to questions like this in the illustrated section of the A/C parts catalog. It's time to play I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours at the auto parts store. Just keep in mind that a drier is not rocket science. Fit @ function is all that you need. Be flexible with the unimportant details.

I don't know where you live, but if it is near a big city then I am sure there is an automotive a/c supply house there.
They are usually located in an industrial area and they don't do a lot of business with the public, but if you walk in and go to the counter sales area someone will likely be able to help you out. A dryer like this is pretty generic and I doubt that finding a subsitute would be a hard thing to do. Let us know how you come out on this. |

I have found the address and number (if you still need it). They rebuild the driers.
Name: Classic Auto Air Manufacturing Co. Address: 4901 Rio Vista Ave, Ste A Tampa, Fl 33634 Number: 813-251-2356 Mercedes Classic had one in stock for $700.00 and this company rebuilt it for $100.00 including shipping and handling Gerhard |

The dryer for my 300m was $30 so I'd look and see if you could find a "Closest fit" vs rebuilding for $100!

Would one of these work? Maybe the "flare receiver drier"?

Actually, the Horizontal O-ring Receiver Drier looks a lot like the one in question but it may be too long. I'd personally find the cheapest "It fits" or, otherwise, I'd have a shop fab a straight hose where it used to go, and relocate it.
