W115 I have a 1971 220D and I need new tires. I would like to put the original size on thanks!

In the spring I will need new tires as well. Mine are cracked from ~15 years of storage. White walls BLECH

The original tire size was some oddball metric measurement. It is no longer made. The equivulant size is, I believe, 185/75 R14. I use the 195/70 R14's because they look better. You can use 205/70's but don't get the 215's because the spare wont fit in the spare tire well without hitting the trunk lid.

p.s., I spelled "equivulant" three different ways "vel" and "val" and they ALL looked wrong!

Ahh, the "self adjusting" option. That option is not available here in the Southwest. We do get the automatic "paint lightening and stripping" feature however and as a bonus we have the "rubber/plastic hardening and removal" thrown in free of charge but it is a standard item and not optional.

The 185/75/14 is the correct modern equivalent size that most closely duplicates the rolling diameter of the original 175/14 size on the door sticker, it is less than 1/2% off the original size and your speedometer is not that accurate in the first place. If you really want the original size you can get it from Vredestein in their Classic series.

Your car will handle better on the bends with wider tires, but your ride won't be quite as smooth - it's a tradeoff but I wouldn't put 185-width tires on ANY car that weighs as much as a vintage MB!
