I own one of the remaining few 68-72 300SE L6.3.....
I have a 1970 300SE L6.3 (386CU IN / 300HP) that I have detailed for car shows. My most recent regional show netted me a First Place in the Foreign-thru-Present Class and Best Foreign Product (at Show) on Oct 20th. I set up a webpage for fans of classic Mercedes with pictures from the latest show (27th Annual Gloucester) and hundreds of other Benz pics.
You can see them here: My Mercedes 300SE L6.3 Webpage There were only 6,524 6.3 liter 300SELs ever made between 1968-72 and according to one estimate fewer than 300 remaining in the entire world. Me too!
Although I don't have a 6.3, I do own a 1979 6.9 (US-spec). I like the 6.3 but prefer the 6.9 as a more "useable" hotrod. The US 6.9 has about 50 less horsepower than the 6.3, but the Euro 6.9 is up there with it. Obviously though, the forte' of these cars is torque. You can floor the 6.9 on the highway and pretty damn well break the rear tires loose. Both cars have ungodly acceleration, but the 6.3 beats the 6.9 by about a second on the 0-60 run. Matter of fact, the other day I witnessed a 6.3 light up the rear tires after being "threatened" by a Mitsubishi 3000GT. Keep that M-100 well looked-after and she'll treat you good!

6.3
I was just saw one last night.. I inched up on him, trying to get a decent look... once I passed I gave him a thumbs up.. about a minute later he stepped on it, and left me far behind.. by the time I caught up, I was doing 80 and he was already slowing down. :p
I had to turn off, but he did give me a little toot on the horn. I think I have seen that one in my friends shop... dont remember the year, but it is a nice moroon color, with stainless steel exhaust. I wouln't mind taking it for a spin someday!

There is one in Macon, Ga. that I have trying to get a family to sell for 8 mos now! It has been sitting in a yard with grass growing up around it for 2 yrs!
The car was perfect but the owner died and left it at his mechanic shop. The inheritors of the car live in Maine and will not sell it. The shop owner said they have been talking about getting it for 2 yrs because it was such a "peach"! Anyway they took the dead guys 86' 300sdl with them instead due to the fact it was newer. I told them financially they should have parked the diesel and drove the 6.3 home. The diesel would have been cheaper to get back up and runnin'! idiots! I will find one someday!

I thought that I would never consider a 6.3 car due to the complexity of the engine and the air suspension system. The couple that I have seen looked totally beat up. That changed when I saw yours, Brad. What a great looking car you have. You have every reason to be proud of it.

I have two children, I would trade them both for a 6.9
or one for a 6.3 your choice of course.......just kidding, but I would love to have M-100, all the power of the firebreathing american pony cars, and the build quality and class of a mercedes. I suppose I will have to settle for restoring my 250C for now though. Corey
