HMMMM I was just thinking
I have read several posts on this forum about the slow gearing for W108 cars. It seems that the most common fix is to put a 3.27 rear axle in from a 4.5 car to slow down the engine @ highway speeds. Well around here there are are no 4.5 powered w108 donor cars.
While crawling around some W114/w115 cars at the bone yard I wondered if a rear suspension from one of those cars would bolt up in place of the W108 suspension. I didn't get exact details about the suspension mounting points but it looks like a closer look would be warranted. With the interchangeability of MB parts between the models a rear suspension change just might be a possibility. Especially since the W114/W115 cars are in abundance around here and the parts are cheap. Any thoughts?

daw two,
Yep Memphis is a quick jaunt from Magee. All I'm looking for right now is some interior wood trim for the windows. On the rear suspension I had some time at work so my mind was wandering. Without measuring, the front pick up points look to be in about the right place. I couldn't tell if the springs would be close. The rear diff support would have to be fabricated. Other than that the rear suspension looks to be a self contained replacement for the swing axle arrangement. If it can be made to work that may be a better/cheaper way to get faster gearing. Seems more practical than fitting a Jag or Corvette susp that I have read about and more common than a 4.5 rear axle.

Not sure if a 107 rear will fit but right now anything is a possibility. I was poking around on another BB and found where a fellow put the rear susp from a 124 under the back of a 108. So it's possible with some fab work.

108 is compatible with 111 axles. I don't think 114/115 ones would work without some fabrication. I know 107 or 124 or 126 axles wouldn't fit without a fair amount of fabrication. If they do I don't think the rear track would match up anyway.
