I am needing to replace my rear muffler and connecting pipes between resonator and rear muffler on my 1972 250C (6 cyl.). The system is two pipes all the way through the dual in/ dual out muffler. Does anyone know for sure if replacement connecting pipes and muffler for 1972 280SE (6 cyl.) have same offset alignment, etc., as these are apparently the only similar parts available. I do not choose to change to a single pipe and muffler system, as shown for the 250C. Thanks for any information. If someone has the 1972 280SE (6 cyl.), perhaps you could give me the general measurements of the connector pipes and angle of offset. Thanks.

As originally equipped, the 250C with the M130 engine had true dual pipes from headers to the chrome tips.

The sedans had duals into the first muffler (resonator), then single from there back.

Parts rationalization dropped the coupe exhaust, subbed in the sedan style, so for many years you have only been able to get the sedan style replacement exhaust. Since the W114 coupe chassis has the same wheelbase as the sedan, it was a logical move.

As for your question, yes the W108 280SE dual exhaust will sub in for your 250C. There is a certain amount of fitting, but the mufflers will work. This is how I did it on my 250C around eight years ago, and it's still running and sounding quite nice. I used OE parts when I did mine.

I just installed a new exhaust system on my '72 108 280SE. I found the front pipe, front muffler, & the rear muffler on eBay, about $200 for all. The 2 Anza connecting pipes I bought from an online dealer for $15.00 each. The Anza pipes didn't fit because they had too much offset. That may be why I have seen several 108 with draggy exhaust systems. I ended up cutting both pipes in half & had a muffler shop expand one half of each pipe. With both mufflers mounted in the car I was able to adjust the offset in the connecting pipes so they would fit.

Believe it or not that same muffler shop said that they couldn't make me connecting pipes because they had never worked on an antique MB before. Go figure. I guess that's life living in redneck country.

The pipes between the first and second muffler for 280SE are not even close for use on 250c. Muffler for 280SE can be used on 250C, but it is a couple of inches longer and mounting bracket points need modification. Must fabricate intermediate pipes to fit from stock bends & pieces.
