stuttering after cold start
Dear W116 forummers,
After I had to return my lease car, I use my 450SE (1976, 163.000km, LPG) for everyday commuting. The cold start (always on petrol) is always perfect with extreme temperatures, thereafter the engine stutters. After about 200m away in 1st gear at around 1200 rpm, the stuttering on idle is over and the engine runs properly. At temperatures of 10 oC and above these problems don’t occur and the engine runs smoothly from the start. The following I have already checked and / or replaced: - Warmupregulator: working ok - Cold air slide (zusatzluftschieber): cleaned and functioning ok - Ignition (electronic): new spark plugs and spark plug wires and working ok - Cold start valve: working ok. I have the following reasoning and my question to you is whether this is true. Maybe you have suggestions from experience. My diagnosis is that somewhere in the intake false air is sucked in. If the engine is very cold (0 ° C and lower), the rubber gaskets, already 33 years old, are no longer able to properly closing all openings. With so to hear two to three cylinders not participating, I think of the rubbers on the injectors. Because false air is sucked in, the injector opening is worse and less fuel is injected. If the engine is just a bit warmer, these rubbers close properly and the engine runs smoothly. Like your comments. Regards, Jan Willem Westerveld (Netherlands) |
