Bring a good 40 board feet of 2x8 or 2x10 to ramp the car onto the trailer. Best to cut them down to 4' lengths. Put some under the ramps to slim down the angle of attack.

Bring a 2x3 to make chocks for the front and rear wheels. Four pieces each 8" long is all you need. Your best bet to lift the car is to either dig a hole to put your jack in, or drag the car forward onto the wood ramps.

The rear wedging wood goes between the axle and the floor. The front wood goes between the rubber buffers of the A-arms. Once wedged, consider the car unsafe; don't crawl under it. the wood can/will slip.

Thanks, cth! I've read the Transporting page at 300se.org about 5 times thus far. I have several advantages. They are:
  1. Car parked on asphalt.
  2. Drive way leading to the car is going UP to the car, but at 90degrees to the front of the car --- visions of trying to back trailer UPHILL then jack knife it to be infront of car.
  3. There's a driveway "turn" (branch) that goes to the left and slightly down several feet past the front of the car....but not directly in front of the car --- visions of pulling truck straight up hill and turning into this area, then trying to positon the front the trailer in front of the car.
  4. Car can remain at the sellers for at least 30 days. I'm hoping longer due to previous commitments.
  5. I have a Dodge (diesel, of course) truck so I can pull a trailer with a car on it.
  6. I own 2 floor jacks.
I am hoping that I'll be able to clean all the leaves out from under it this weekend and have a better idea what I have. Naturally, my time will be quite limited. I'll probably take some pics of the area so I can study how to stage the loading. I wish the driveway was longer and not as steep. I'm hoping I can get the trailer right in front of the car and put the first section of boards right in front of the wheels --- will the boards slide on the asphalt as the wheel comes up against it? Will I have to jack up the car and put board under the wheels to get it rolling onto the boards. If I get the trailer situated correctly, I could place a board between the front wheel and the end of the trailer ramp and the board would not be able to slip (slide), thus the car wheel would come up on the board.

With today's economy, there's very few new houses going up.....finding the scrap wood 2x8 or 2x10 is going to be challenging. Guess I better start looking.

How long does it take using a come along to winch a car up onto a trailer?

Time to run to work.

Folks.....

Here's an update.

There has been no transfer of money between the Seller and I; and while I am a person of my word, I'm having a big case of "Buyer's Remorse". I do not think its possible to dedicate the resources to this car in order to properly "restore". Therefore, I'm going to ask this forum if anyone is interested in the vehicle.

I'm considering offering to the seller to assist her in selling the fintail.

Sorry to hear you're having 'buyer's remorse', that's not a good feeling. If you're still interested in something of similar flavor I saw this http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/1565542560.html on the Portland, OR Craigslist. While a bit pricier, its condition is much more manageable. And, "price is somewhat negotiable"! Good luck with this transaction...

This was the ad.

Here's the car in question....

Vintage '63 Mercedes 300SE Has not run in several years. Automatic (with spare transmission in trunk), Bosch mechanical fuel injection, AM/FM radio. All glass intact, have most trim pieces. Lots of rust. Complete and not wrecked. Will have to be towed. Have keys and title. Asking $600.00 cash, but will consider any reasonable offer.

Pics Up

Okay, folks.

The hood star is still with the car, too.

Guys, do NOT wear her out with endless emails. Please only contact her if you really want to buy the WHOLE car. She does NOT want to part it out. And please offer to PayPal her the funds.
